The jihadists took control over Aleppo!
For the past two days, the city of Aleppo has been under the jihadists of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) fire, the former Syrian branch of al-Qa’ida. The jihadists entered the city today for the first time since 2016.
Benjamin Blanchard, director general of SOS Chrétiens d’Orient, is in constant contact with Syria mission, reports: ‘The inhabitants are fleeing en masse, by the roads that are not cut off. The city could fall in the next few hours’.
SOS Chrétiens d’Orient has been present in Aleppo since 2015. At that time, the city was already under siege by the jihadists. For months, we provided emergency aid to its people. Since the liberation of the city in 2016, we launched major reconstruction and development projects. ‘Eight years later, Aleppo is once again a martyred.’ continues Benjamin Blanchard.
‘To address the urgency of the situation’, he concludes: “SOS Chrétiens d’Orient will continue its work in Syria, in particular its aid to the inhabitants of Aleppo, thanks to the support of its donors. And that by all possible means and for as long as necessary”.
