SOS Chrétiens d’Orient react to the political events in Syria and the fall of the Syrian governance.
Fourteen years of war, division and suffering have left 90% of Syrians living below the poverty line, a country devastated and exhausted after years of war and international sanctions. But today, the Syrian civil war is coming to an end. ‘We hope to see the return of peace for the Syrian people soon’, says Benjamin Blanchard, Director General of SOSCO.
He continues: ‘We hope that this political transition will take place peacefully and that the future authorities will ensure the safety of everyone, especially the Christians of Syria. We also hope that this political change will not be accompanied by waves of persecution, revenge and retaliation. Finally, we hope that Syria will be rebuilt with respect for all its components.’
SOS Chrétiens d’Orient, which has been working in Syria since 2015, appeals to the respect and the encouragement of non-governmental organisations’ work. SOSCO intends to continue its work helping the Christians of the East, in collaboration with its local partners, the support of its volunteers and the generosity from its donors.
