Press release issued by SOS Chrétiens d’Orient following the speech of Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic

Thursday 24 October 2024

Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, announced France’s contribution of $100 million as part of the International Conference in Support of Lebanon held in Paris on 24 October 2024. The conference’s main goal is to raise $400 million for displaced people and victims of Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. Emmanuel Macron explained: ‘The UN agencies will ensure that these funds are optimally managed (…) we will support all eligible agencies (…) which will be able to provide support to NGOs who will in turn provide support on the ground, and France is ready to help in particular to coordinate aid to the education sector.’

The organization, SOS Chrétiens d’Orient, applauds the assistance that France will provide to the Lebanese people and the recognition of the humanitarian situation by most UN member states. SOSCO has been working in Lebanon since 2014 and has been on the ground more than ever since the beginning of the ongoing conflict, launching an emergency campaign to support hundreds of thousands of wounded and displaced people from South Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, including the implementation of a mobile clinic and numerous medical, material, and food donations.

SOSCO is ready to work and coordinate with relevant agencies to continue its work and intensify its humanitarian assistance to the long-suffering Lebanese people.
