The Humanitarian workers are not targets.
On the evening of November 26, just a few hours before the ceasefire took effect, Israel carried out a series of airstrikes targeting border posts and crossing points between Lebanon and Syria.
Early on the morning of November 27, one of these strikes hit the Daboussiyeh border post in Homs province, claiming the lives of four individuals, including Muhannad Jakish, a humanitarian worker with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
The attack also damaged essential humanitarian vehicles and equipment belonging to SARC, forcing the organization to suspend all humanitarian operations along the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The staff and volunteers of SOS Chrétiens d’Orient extend their heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.
SOS Chrétiens d’Orient, an international organization present in Syria since 2013, strongly condemns this attack against the humanitarian workers in conflict zones. “No humanitarian worker should ever be a target,” emphasizes Wael Kassouha, Head of Mission for SOS Chrétiens d’Orient in Syria.
With 16 million Syrians living below the poverty line after 14 years of conflict and crippling international sanctions, it is imperative that humanitarian organizations are respected and safeguarded. “Let us do our work,” concludes Wael Kassouha.
